With the rise of globalization, numerous educators have recommended that all the professors’ lectures be delivered exclusively in English. The aim of this initiative is to enormously escalate students’ global competitiveness that is to their advantage while they are faced with the global competition in the years ahead. Nevertheless, prior to the full implementation of this mechanism, there is a desperate need for us to reassess the whole issue from a much more comprehensive, feasible perspective so as to make it not merely feasible in terms of its execution but efficacious in students’ absorbing valuable knowledge from those erudite professors. My stance toward this issue is that I am totally opposed to this blueprint because of a handful of reasons. To begin with, not all the professors are well equipped with competent English ability – whether or not they received their Ph.D. from foreign countries. As a consequence, the way they deliver their lectures can be beyond their capability, which I believe will do the harm to students’ learning efficiency. Simultaneously, by the same token, the same problem may happen to students as well, because of their relatively fragile English ability. And that is why I object to the execution of entirely English lectures granted by professors in college today precisely on account of the consideration of both feasibility and learning efficiency.
In dealing with the English-speaking lectures, here are some of the initiatives I will lay out. First, rapidly elevating my English listening ability, by exposing myself to the English broadcasting more intensively and frequently, is exactly what I have to do. Doing so will enable me to better understand what the professors interpret in their lectures. However, this deed alone cannot fully satisfy my personal needs from a much more comprehensive perspective to have a glance at this issue. That is, I find it necessary for me to enormously enhance my oral expression capability so well that I may substantially engage in a more eloquent participation in class discussion from which I may absorb more valuable knowledge as I join the class. Here is what I will do in coping with this issue prior to entering college. I will resort to personal discipline for impromptu speech, which can be put into effect whenever possible, especially when I am free to do so. Of course, accessing more conversations in English with my classmates is another step that can and must be taken. With my efforts, all the predictable problems can be well eradicated for sure, which may pave the way for my fruitful learning in a fully English speaking environment.
